Hi-I'm Andrea!
I'm a mom of three who took some time off to raise her kids and am now back to doing what I love most...
helping people eat REAL foods, get off medications, and thrive!
Now, let me tell you how I got here....
I've always enjoyed sports and being healthy. But I heard a lot about being "thin" when I was growing up- which led to disordered eating, compulsive exercise, thoughts of food all.the.time (because I was starving but was told I couldn't eat pizza, burgers, fries, etc), guilt & body-shame when I couldn't say no and and overall lack of EVIDENCE-BASED nutrition knowledge.
It wasn't until I discovered that a Nutrition Degree was a real "thang", that I began to learn how to nourish my body, change my relationship towards food, eat a wide variety of foods, learn that there is no "bad" food (only bad quanitities), and learn biochemistry (how the body processes macronutrients, micronutrients, vitamins, minerals and more) for homeostasis and disease prevention.
Like, I could actually stop worrying about "what" I could eat all of the time and still enjoy social events, some calorie-rich, nutrient-poor foods from time-to-time, but learn how to eat MORE foods that helped me feel good without any guilt, shame OR illness.
After graduating with a degree in Human Nutrition & Foods from Virginia Polytechnic & State University, I received a scholarship from the Medical Speciality Corps Didactic Internship Program at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. I commissioned as an Army Officer (yes, I was kind of like Pvt Benjamin without any ROTC experience!) and went off to Officer Basic at Fort Sam Houston, TX. I spent more than 1200 hours at Walter Reed completing my Dietetic Internship with rotations throughout the hospital & community.
While at Womack Army Medical Center in Fort Bragg, NC, I was the clinical inpatient dietitian providing Medical Nutrition Support for: TPN, Tube Feedings, Enteral Feedings, helping Diabetics, Cardiac, Renal, GI Disorders, Metabolic Disorders, Obesity and Bariatric Surgery.
I have a lot of energy and I love people! So it's not a shock to learn that I share my love of healthy eating everywhere I go. Once I even had a weekly radio spot where you'd hear my tips as you started your day!
