My Story

Army-trained. Mother.
Now back — and better than ever.

Most dietitians have 2–3 areas of specialty. I bring clinical, military, and life experience across a rare combination of disciplines — and I bring all of it to every patient I see.

"Patients today are tired of being told their labs show nothing wrong, maybe it's in their heads, and they should consider eating less and exercising more. I believe your health deserves more!"

— Andrea Zajac, RDN

I earned a scholarship to Walter Reed Army Medical Center's Medical Specialty Corps Dietetic Internship — one of the most rigorous clinical training programs in the country. I commissioned as a U.S. Army Officer, completed over 1,200 clinical hours across ICU, cardiac, renal, oncology, and bariatric care, and served as Chief of Clinical Nutrition at Womack Army Medical Center.

Then I stepped away — intentionally — to raise my children. It's one of the best decisions I ever made. When I returned to practice, I dove deep into functional medicine and built a specialty that goes far beyond what most RDNs offer.

My journey with food is also personal. I grew up in a culture of thinness that led to my own experience with disordered eating. Healing that relationship is what led me to nutrition — and it drives my compassionate, non-judgmental approach with every patient.

Intentional Career Break

Raising My Family

I stepped away from clinical practice to raise my children — one of the best decisions I've ever made. This season gave me deep personal insight into the real-life challenges my patients face: time constraints, family nutrition, stress, and sustainable health habits.

Present · San Diego, CA

SD Medical Nutrition Therapy, PC

Returned to practice with expanded functional medicine training — GI-MAP, DUTCH, CGM, NutrEval, nutritional psychiatry, and nutrigenomics. Built a private practice designed around what patients actually need: real answers, personalized plans, and a practitioner who listens.

My Philosophy

What I believe about your health

🔬

Root causes, not symptoms

Your symptoms are signals. I'm trained to read them — and to find what's actually driving them, not just manage them.

🌱

Real food, not restriction

I'll likely tell you to eat more. Nourishment — not deprivation — is how bodies heal and thrive.

🤝

Partnership, not prescription

Your goals drive the plan. I bring the clinical expertise; you bring the knowledge of your own life. Together we build something that actually works.

💛

Compassion without judgment

I've lived the struggle with food and body image. There is no judgment in this practice — only support, science, and a genuine desire to see you thrive.
